Advice please - Are these genuine Mikimoto pearls?

Dear Willeyi, I think you made a good decision. One more thing that would concern me is that there is no proof of purchase or certificate (I don't know whether Mikis come with that). If the pearls are only 5 years old, I would wonder why this would not be available. Particularly as these pearls...

Advice please - Are these genuine Mikimoto pearls?

This is a (in my opinion) huge price tag for something you are not sure on. I am not much of a brand buyer and have never seen Mikis. So I cannot juge on their quality. But I would never, ever, spend that much money, especially on ebay, without the ability of returning the item for a full refund.

I am not sure what the definition of "lost" is. Lost as in "they died during transport"?

Environmentally (and socially) responsible pearl farming?

I think it is very useful to highlight the benefits of farming methods. I have also been wondering whether pearl farmers could collaborate with climate scientists. After all, even small changes in pH should affect oysters. I don't know if anybody systematically monitors pH changes in oceans...

Sarah's piece looks like flowers, too. The brown Tahitian has quite some character. I never would have thought about this combination

    Chinese pearl export statistics.... OOPS!

OK. Now you just confirmed to me that the real estate bubble in China will surely burst with a loud bang followed shortly by my 401K. If this is the way they account for their GDP and exports. This is so funny. I hope the European union knows what they are dealing with.

Environmentally (and socially) responsible pearl farming?

Wise words Douglas. I already figured from the nonresponse that price is the key driver. To me that would suggest hard times are ahead for Kasumi pearls out of Japan and white SS. I think you fortunately are in a great niche anyways without the added benefit of responsible farming.

Environmentally (and socially) responsible pearl farming?

I have for some time now investigated pearl farming that can make some impact on its environment, both socially and environmentally. There are pearl farms in Tahiti, Fiji, and the Philippines (mentioned here on this board) that come to my mind. That covers black pearls and golden and perhaps...

The "Pearl of Datu" from palawan philippines

No, you are not the only one. It reminded me of a brain, too. That is why it kind of grosses me out. I have childhood memories of brains cooking slowly in a pot of broiling water.

The "Pearl of Datu" from palawan philippines

I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder. As for me, somebody would have to pay me for adding this to my collection. But then, I am not a collector, I love big empty spaces.

Post a Picture of Your Work Table!!

I am so jealous. About both the sight and the cold. After having temperatures between 90 to 115 degrees nonstop between March and mid September, it is finally autumn in Texas, too. But it still gets hot during the day. Working with your scenery in front of your eyes must be haven.

Indonesia, the world's largest SSP producing country, to increase production

I think they face stiff competition by large Chinese freshwater pearls. Either they push the exclusive luxury segment or try to compete with cheaper prices. I would go probably opt for the first, particularly the way the economy looks. But that may also be difficult.
