    Are Indian "natural" pearls natural?

As discussed in this forum, differentiating between natural and cultured (unless there is a big ol' bead in place) appears to have a margin for error. What does that do to the price of naturals?

    French Bullion Wire

Wow! Look at all the pretty colors! I haven't bought bullion in ages but I think I have a couple of sizes on hand. What I do remember is I don't like plated bullion. It breaks down. I do like sterling silver (never had a tarnish problem) and the vermeil. But those colors sure are tempting!

How do you color-fast brigh-color freshwater pearls?

I just saw this response. I wasn't suggesting that she put the pearls in vinegar for a week. A few moments will do to solidify the color. Good experiment though. I might try it to see if they are really colorfast. The only other thing I have seen to make them colorfast is a varnish coating...

Blaire, tell John he CAN retire. He can sit at home and still have his business with us PGers online. We don't need fancy. Since you began talking about him, I wished he came to my area.

    Need advice on stringing material

Wow! Tons of misinformation here in this thread. As I look at the design, I see the use of gold beads as spacers. Spacer beads prevent the line from breaking regardless of whether they are metal, gemstone, glass, plastic or some other material. Having beads which are alike breaks the line...

    Need advice on stringing material

My question would be, what is the purpose of knotting between each pearl and then putting a bead over the knot? Sounds like extra work. Since you mention possibly lengthening it at some later time, Caitlin says fishing line is unforgiving and cutting it apart might be detrimental to the pearls...

    Naturals and nuclei?

EGL comes to mind. Labs assess. They do not appraise. (Although it appears EGL does appraise.) GIA is accredited by virtue of being an educational institute. I don't know how the others hold themselves out to be leaders in the industry. Wendy, I'm sorry you take issue with my very short...

    Naturals and nuclei?

One reason I can think of is origin identification. I'm considering a strand labeled as Biwa so I would submit the strand to determine if they are truly Biwa or if they are just really pretty nuggets. I already know they are cultured.
