Hi Sarah, Re. opening each box or pouch to find a particular item - this is how I keep my jewellery. In other drawers I have antique pieces in individual clear-lidded boxes so I can still see items at a glance.

That's easy Pattye, I'm always bad tempered in the morning 'till I've had several cups of coffee, so I choose the pearls which will cheer me up the quickest......:D And those pearls will be whatever looks good on the particular day.:)

In your photos., the pearls look fabulous whichever way they are worn (oh, to have your model's looks.....:)). I'm currently putting together a slightly longer rope - smaller pearls, about 6mm. - 7.5mm. - and will wear it layered, layered, layered... Sometimes wrapped three times, sometimes...

It may well be so, Olga, but it is, nevertheless, a thing of beauty and one to be treasured. Of course, it is also possible that an heirloom was no longer fashionable and so the materials were used to make a more wearable piece. This was common here, and I presume it would be the same elsewhere...

Caitlin, Sorry, I misled you; I topcoated the painted walls with a clear glaze that has coloured sparkles in it. But it has the effect of iridescent glass - rainbow colours that shimmer as the light or the person moves.... Michael, The iridescence fascination came first; dad had a shell...

Well, this thread has pulled me up short...:) It's iridescence every time for me. I hadn't realised quite how entranced I am by it either, until this thread made me think about it. Flicking the duster around today, I realised that I have iridescent glass and mother of pearl all over the house...
