Fred Ward on round Chinese freshwaters

I bought some roundish to baroque 10-11mm, and smaller drops (maybe 9x11mm). I'd been told they were bead nucleated, but as I hadn't read anything about them wasn't 100% sure until I whacked a couple with a hammer (it took a lot of whacks). Bead nucleus in the two I cracked open were both 6mm...

    Youpearl.com

I suppose you could order a strand of each and see; treat it as research. The photos are certainly lovely and prices good. Shipping seems fair.

    More knotting trouble

I had to restring the necklaces I did early on. It could be just a matter of practice, though I thought it was the silk I was using when I started. I was buying it in Australia.. not much choice. When they ran out I looked farther afield and bought from Stachura in the US. I preferred the brand...

    More knotting trouble

I pull it up against the pearl; often I do the knot twice, depends on the size of the pearl and how snug the silk is in the drill hole. I also let the weight of the unknotted pearls pull on the silk as I work.

    More knotting trouble

I use a single strand of the thickest silk I can get through a pearl twice. (I use Guderbrod, and have it in FF (thickest), F, E and D. I use FF and F the most often. Also use the very finest needle I can find. I place a bead buddy on the end of the silk, thread on all the pearls,(which I've...

Trying to Knot Pearls (insert cuss word here)

When I started knotting I remember feeling as if I had two left hands. The only way to remedy that is to .... wait for it.. practice, practice, practice lol. Starting with bracelet length is a GREAT idea! I wish I'd though of that when I was starting (would have been less to CUT UP when I had to...

Trying to Knot Pearls (insert cuss word here)

I like Thread Heaven, but I really only use it occasionally, to ease a needle through pearls when they are a tight fit. When I need it I just run the eye of the needle and surrounding thread over the little block. If Thread Heaven doesn't help then I need to go down a size in the silk thread. Cathy

    More knotting trouble

If the thread thickness is working for your pearls you could try thicker gimp, or, instead, what about if the last 3 pearls you leave 2 threads dangling and only put 2 threads though the pearls, put on the gimp, the clasp, and come back through the pearls then knot off where you left the...

    All My Pearls

LOLOL... I'm testing a LOT!! I did have them hanging on the wardrobe door, but that made it a bit too obvious how many I had; now some are in silk pouches and the ones I wear most are piled in a pretty bowl on my bedside table. Not quite as obvious just how many there are. Of course us 'pearl...

    Peanut Pearls!

Peanut or Devotion pearls drilled through the middle are very satisfying to string. I've also had double keshi cfwp drilled the same way.

    Peanut Pearls!

I've been calling these double baroques, but I like Devotion Pearls, nice idea. The last couple of lots I got had lots of variation.. pointy bits and strange additions. I decided they were rebels! Cathy
