Completed my planned double strand of vintage freshwaters

I am happy you had a positive experience. You have done a terrific job, well balanced, and the clasp you chose compliments the pearls beautifully. Beaders secret thread is quite flexible and not stiff like a lot of synthetic threads on the market, it also absorbs instead of repelling moisture...

    Opinions about these

Congratulations Gail You have worked on the holy grail of stringing, natural pearls, and you had to re-balance a triple strand at that...

    Opinions about these

Hi Gail congratulations on getting to the finishing off stage with your pearls. As the thread is very fine and the white gold beads have bigger holes I would recommend the first finishing off knot to be double, this will give your finishing off more strength, then continue with the hidden knots.

    Opinions about these

Hi Gail, I would balance the strands with the white gold beads and not move any of the pearls. It may not sound complex to move around some pearls, however this type of pearl has inconsistent sizes/shapes. To add to the mix you are also working on someone else’s stringing we are all not the...

    Opinions about these

Hi Gail, what a lovely gift from your Mother. As I do this for a profession I am saddened to see what a fellow restringer has done to your pearls, especially if you told her they were natural . The holes in natural pearls are usually miniscule* at least the ones that I have had the pleasure of...

    Blue Akoyas

That Keshi is super lush, lucky you That’s marvelous Katbran that you were able to obtain those gorgeous Keshis, they are hard to obtain. I was lucky to go to Broken Bay pearls, which is an Akoya farm in New South Wales approx 6 years ago around harvest time. The pearls straight out of the...

    New fireball... with cracks

That’s a shocker Barry Crocker!! If the dealer is reputable they would quickly understand the issue and take the appropriate steps to compensate you. The photo’s clearly show the problem, and in my opinion returning the pearl shouldn’t be required, but if they do, it should be at their...

    pearls and sapphires

The first thing I looked at was the knots, I reckon you have done a terrific job. The colour of the sapphires compliment the pearls nicely, I really Ike the combination. Btw the clasp is gorgeous.

How to remove the silk/nylon thread got stuck inside the pearl hole?

One last suggestion, and doesn’t need a pearl drill, just patience and time. Rather than pearl drills, get some twist drills of the size you mentioned (0.6 / 0.7) fit them in a pin vice (should be able to obtain at same place as sells the drill bits) and work from the opposite side to the...

How to remove the silk/nylon thread got stuck inside the pearl hole?

I agree with Pearl Dreams on using a drill bit, however some skill/experience is needed in order to avoid making things worse. My suggestion is to use a drill two sizes smaller than the hole appears, and work from the opposite side from the blockage. Another option is using watchmakers...

    Fake Mikimoto pearl clasp?

The clasp appears to be a vintage mikimoto clasp, mixed feelings on the pearls-I reckon they are simulated and a wild guess Majorica pearls. The way they are peeling Is something I have seen on that type of pearl. I see this in my repair business, clasps that have been harvested from something...

    sample sale purchases

Seoulite, the earrings are fabulous, the pearls have a great lustre. You would pay that price just for the gold fittings in Australia. The price you paid for the loose pearls is terrific. You have chosen very well.

Scientific first used to confirm Age of Ana Maria Pearl

Pearls, Emeralds, History and now a scientific first - this one has it all :) The Swiss Gemmological Institute have used radiocarbon dating in what is a world first, to confirm the age of an important historical pearl, the "Ana Maria Pearl". Gemmologists carefully took a very tiny sample from...

    Help With Mikimoto Hallmarks

Hi apsolutions, its a makers mark. My thoughts, if you have the original box this can help with dating and provenance . The butterfly fittings look to me like the current type they are using at present. Good luck on your quest.
