Trying to calculate age of Mikimoto silver pearl bead necklace 35 inches

Probably yes - from the depth and intensity of the colour But As Sterling Silver contains copper, you can in certain circumstances arrive at a green colour instead of the more typical blacks and blues.

Trying to calculate age of Mikimoto silver pearl bead necklace 35 inches

Yes it is verdigris ( oxidation from copper), patina if you like. I see this quite a lot in my repair side of my stringing business. I hope that Mikimoto can help you, seeing as the strand has been altered. Let us know how you get on.

Trying to find replacement seed pearls for antique piece.

Hi gigi, check to see if they are half seed pearls - most sellers sell them full-round. The half seed pearls can be harder to obtain.

    Should I buy these pearls?

No 1 picture looks like fresh water pearls- the deco clasp looks single style made into double ( quite stunning the clasp ). The flower clasp looks like it has Akoya pearl. No 2 Looks very old - looks like a rose cut diamond, and their is a chance they could be natural. No 3 Appear to be fake...

    Linda's Lowly Beading Adventures

I know what you mean by large holes and thicker thread, I just completed a Bakelite 1920’s necklace that used 6 strands of the heavy/thick thread. The look on your cat’s face made me laugh ( although for you it was no laughing matter) he/ she was inspecting their handy work :-(

    4 pearl items

Hello, Elias, the pearls with the bars look like Akoya pearls- the black pearls look like dyed fresh water pearls. The long strand the shot of that is not clear and not going to guess, finally the ring looks very old, if you can give us an approximate date and more information on the ring it...

    Linda's Lowly Beading Adventures

My standard measure is - two and a half to three times the length of the intended piece. Max would be three and a half, when knotting seed pearls or micro beads. This measure is per strand of thread. ( so if using four threads to string with you would have 4*( X*2.5 )=length to use ) This...

    Linda's Lowly Beading Adventures

Well done on the knotting of the Aquamarine rondelles, the more you knot beads and pearls the easier it is to judge the thread length. The smaller the beads the more thread you use, below 3mm I usually use three times the length plus one half length. 3mm to 5mm I use three times the length.
