What a thoughtful husband you are, Cole! :) I will keep this short as a lot of good expert opinion has been given out already. My choice would be: AAA metallic freshwaters (beautiful and durable), 8-9 mm, white (or multicolor) pearls, 17 inches - that would cover your questions about type, size...

I would agree with Pearl Dreams there....these do look like freshwater pearls..

All good advice there Blossy. Follow your heart - there is no right and wrong size there. Both sizes that you mentioned would look good now and in the future too. But I would get the bigger of the 2 sizes if I could. Welcome to P-G! Show us what you decide on and eventually get. :)

Thanks for your kind comments, Katbran! Yes, knotting each pearl of this size would not only be a tedious job, it would also take away from the beauty of the strand, I think. Keeping the gentle flow of the pearl strand is so important...:)

Thanks Naan and DK! :) Pattye, I forgot to answer your question about knotting - there are knots after every few pearls (not individually knotted). And now I understand what you mean by untwisted and loose - yes these can be worn straight too...Sorry, must have been having a slow day...:/
