    Super Peacock Pearls Necklace

Sorry folks I miss-spelt the islands name it's actually Abrolhus Islands. Just had a google to see and came up with Chimere Pearls. I do not know them but felt the need to let everyone know what actually happens in Australia. See ya.

    Super Peacock Pearls Necklace

Evening All I am unable to say where the strand is from but let everyone know, Black Pearls are grown in the west of Australia. I've been reading about it for quite a few years now. I think it's around the Abrollus Islands. I'm not familiar with the area but, they have been growing for a...

    Pearl diver dies in Broome

You can be sure there will be a pretty comprehensive look into it. I'm pretty sure there was a diver death at Arafura Pearls in the Territory in 09. I didn't read it in the new's, an employee of mine had come from there and several of their employee's called us for jobs and explained the...

Average size of South Sea pearl nuclei?

Gidday again Adeline, with regular wearing the thin area will simply wear off to expose the nuclei. You can hide that section within a mount. For example, in my travels I have pretended interest in pearl jewellery to suss out the vendor and found brooches to be beautiful upon first glance but...

Average size of South Sea pearl nuclei?

Gidday Adeline The nuclei sitting in the boulbus secton of a tear drop pearl is simply the way they are created. In South Sea Pearl growing quite a few are seeded to get a beautiful gem grade. The better your practices and the right environmental seasons will see and increase of the ratio...

Average size of South Sea pearl nuclei?

Thanks Karin, Katbran, The real problem you are faced with unless you buy direct from the farmer is Who knows where they came from? There are honourable people out there, but a certificate really is just a piece of paper. You would be stunned if you saw the numbers that go through the...

Average size of South Sea pearl nuclei?

Gidday Pearlharbourer You pointed out one of your pearls was a tear drop. Put it in the palm of your hand. Look closely at the pointier end as you slowly turn it. As you turn, focus on the middle pointier bit. Don't look at the edges as they will change as they reflect your skin. Once you...

    Knotted or Unknotted

Gidday All PearlDreams, we put all our pearls in bags together for storage all the time. However once drilled I totally suggest you have them knotted. A nice knot of silk thread is a better bed for a drilled pearl than another nacre edge from the next drilled pear.

Calling pearl pros - Strange baroque SSP

That's interesting Adeline but we will never add dye to any of our pearls or mabe. As soon as you add dye, you've joined the chinese revolution. All power to those that like it dyed, we feel the true beauty of a pearl is it's natural state.

Calling pearl pros - Strange baroque SSP

Gidday Caitlin There's plenty of Pteria Penguin production going on. James Cook Uni in Townsville is involved with Spat production experiments in North Queensland as a business assistance package in the south Pacific with Australian Foreign Affairs. Bron's getting right into it here as well...

Average size of South Sea pearl nuclei?

Gidday All Alex, I'll let others speak for their respective industries. Shell retirement for us when harvesting means, if a bad pearl comes out and the inner shell appears "clean", they are used for mabe. Bron and I only reseed a shell if a quality pearl comes out. The retired shell that are...

Average size of South Sea pearl nuclei?

Gidday and welcome South Sea Pearl Nuclei come in quite a range of sizes. Mikey can explain that. The thickness variations of nacre are not only a result of the pearl remaining in the shell for a longer time. Considder a family you know with four or five kids that have grown. The kids will be...

Calling pearl pros - Strange baroque SSP

Gidday everyone We get a fair bit of the gray but i've not seen the oil slik like the one on the right. With South Sea's, the greyer they get the lower the grade. That's a farmers view from a commercial reality. They are beautiful in their own right however. I don't think the colour will fade...

    SS photo problems

Gidday All With the Big baroques, check the boulbus end all around as that tends to be the thinnest area of Nacre on that type of pearl. If they've been tumbled if wallnut oil or such, they may appear O.K in a photo and surprise you in the wrong way when studied in your hand.

    SS photo problems

Great prices Katbran, go for it. The Tahitians are a good price, but the vendor is making more than 100% on what he'd have paid. You'll have some fun with them anyway. Enjoy yourself.

    Keshi's for an engagement ring

Hello RedMercuryVII Pretty out there name you've chosen. First of all, You decide what size Keshi you'd like for the ring and go from there. Understand that most Keshi's are hollow, so ensure your jeweller actually encases the pearl into the ring. The thought of a Tahitian Kehsi in platinum...
