    Pearl sizes and PowerPro

Use Power Pro with doubled threads, do only one knot and you will not even see the knot if you are lucky. 15 and 20 lbs will fit most pearls, the really heavy ones you could string with 30 lbs. A necklace looks very nice if the knots are neat.

What goes into a pearl report? (GIA Thailand)

Download is malfunctioning for me as well, I can see 8 pages, before problems arise. It would be very interesting to see the whole report.

    French Bullion Wire

Wendy, is your gimp real gold and sterling silver and not just the plated type? The price would suggest that as the ones I bought were a bit cheaper.

    French Bullion Wire

Hi Pearlcat, I have silver and gold (plated) I think in all the 3 sizes, fine, medium and heavy. The fine I use almost never as it is so small so I have problem to slip it over the needle. Medium works for most sizes and the heavy one could be used with large pearls with a large clasp. So far I...

Locking a rope w/o a clasp and other questions about PowerPro

Hi Jiazzi, nowadays I do not pull my necklaces because Power Pro can hurt the fingers pretty bad through "cutting". At the beginning I did pulling the line a lot and it never became stretched or broke. And I am still pulling the two lines after finishing a knot but in an even way.... I used to...

    First Attempt at Knotting

Pearlcat, if you buy silk I recommend spools, they are quite affordable. Gudebrod, size E (for pearls up to 8 mm), or F but in general I would recommend Power Pro. Read up on it on "The Lowly Beaders Club". And always work with doubled thread or line if using Power Pro.

    First Attempt at Knotting

Hi Pearlcat, it is great fun to match and knot ones own necklace, isn?t it? Nice result for a first time knotting, is it silk you are using? Even tinier knots you can get in using Power Pro and for pearls the size you mention probably much better than silk because of the stretching!

    Need advice on stringing material

Claudenancy and Lauren, I have just now "redone" a necklace several times, as I am not satisfied with my matching the pearls and no pearl dust at all despite using Power Pro. I use my Lindstr?m cutter and of course one has to be careful as not to harm the surface of the pearls when cutting the...

    icomepacks on eBay?

Just a question: I see that their unfinished strands are 15,5", even with stringing and a clasp that seems to me to be very short?! Did you ask the seller to add some pearls?

    PP April special

Would the restringing job be easy enought for people not used to do wire work? I can think of cleaning the chain after it has become tarnished but I can?t imagine whether it is possible to get everything together in a professional way....:p I would like to see a close up of how the...

    Need advice on stringing material

Hi Claudenancy, why should there be a problem with Power Pro? Depending on what lbs you are using I think it is a very good option as the goldbeads won?t cut the line as easy as silk. What size do you have? I think 15 lbs to 20 lbs ought to do the trick! BTW - I love your necklace with golden...

Question about making a rope with various size pearls

Sueki, I agree with Nerida, that last rope is absolutely fabulous as I too love symmetry if possible...:) I like the other ropes as well, the Kamoka is very, very nice - a pity that those pearls come not cheap...;) And if I take a look at Boo?s ropes - they are lovely as well, looking at her...

    question about pearl blemishes

Hi Tamlin and welcome to the forum. A gem-quality strand can and will of course have a couple of pearls with slighter blemishes, if I remember correctly though, this quality comes from 0,01% of all harvested pearls of a kind, in this case cultered freshwater pearls. Please remember that a pearl...

    Chinese student coming to US

Hi Yikai and thanks again for the information. After reading I think I will do better just to order "The Pearl Doctor" if my pearls need a refreshing. BTW in case anyone thinks I have encountered problems with luster on my CFWPs - that?s not the case, I just wanted to be prepared for the future...

    The Natural Pearl from Burma

I can?t answer that question other than that it is not easy to photograph pearls. Why don?t you try a white paper towel and see if the true colours come through better?
