Etsy seller being scammed by supplier?

They most certainly look like freshwater pearls to me. If however they really would be South Seas, the seller would be crazy to give them away for such a small amount of money! But the shape is very revealing I think and it is not hard to recognize them once you have seen other strands with this...

    The Pearl Oyster , 2008

Hi Blair, I imagine that you could have got yourself a nice strand from the offerings from PP :D if I imagine what all these "book treasures" will cost you, however the Pearl Oyster is a "must have" :pfor any of us interested in pearls and their producers. Good reading!:):)

    Tom Stern's natural pearls

Hi Tom and thanks for the fast reply. If you are asking, please ask also if someone does know how many years i takes for the mussel to grow a certain tickness of nacre. I think that the nacre on such large pearls should be well over 2 mm or more to make the pearls not wearing down to the "core"...

    Tom Stern's natural pearls

Hi Tom, interesting as the question about the nucleus material may be I would like to know just how thick the nacre would be in a pearl with a nucleus that gives the result of 20 mm and is the nacre the same thickness in relation to the nucleus in smaller pearls (13 - 19 mm)?

    Question about golden SSP

Hi Isi and welcome to the forum. If you could photograp the pearl on a white paper towel as background, turn it over so that we can have a look from the "side" to see the shap better. Unfortunately you cannot look into the drillhole, that could under magnification show if there is some surplus...

    Freshwater Vs. Saltwater

thanks for an very much interesting article. It is a bit strange that we pearl lovers never seem to be much interested in the shells, although they protect the pearls and the life of the mussels.:)

Some of my odd pearl creations

I second Boo and Amrita: no live animals of any kind in any kind of pins, brooches and so on - it is thoughtless and cruel and so madingly human!:eek:

    Tom Stern's natural pearls

Thanks for the report, Tom. Am I correct in taking it that 20 mm pearls would have a bead inside like the Fireballs? In this case it is exciting to hear that the Cinese must have overcome the problems with the "tails". Please let us know if you hear more about their advancements. It is also...

    Red Nose Pearls

Nice necklace Wendy, have you done it with white silk or thread as well? I would like it better that way, the red between the whites is drawing too much attention to the knots IMO. Otherwise very nice thought...

    My secret Valentine

Anne, what size is the pearl in the middle of you multicoloured strand? It seems to be much smaller than the surrounding pearls. It looks to me no larger than 8-8,5 mm.

    My secret Valentine

Hi KauaiAnne and welcome to the forum. All three strands are lovely but I really like your Akoyas. Just to see them in such a size is amazing, however it is very good that you have those neck shots because it proves it again - large pearls can look GREAT! And I too love your avatar! Great photos!

How do I post with a picture attached?

It is a special kind of chemical treatment if I remember correctly but it is not very common with pearls, I think! If recalling rightly, it is a rather expensive way of enhancing luster but it is done with gem stones I believe. There should be a post somewhere here on the forum.
