Beading Merries and Mishaps by Cece

Your loops turned out beautifully plus glowing pearls! I've never paid much attention to that tool, but I may have to consider it. Can you wrap too if it's used?

    Lop Nors found!

So back in about 2005 I was sure I had found some genuine Lop Noors on eBay, temp strung, tucked them away. Found and knotted last year! Not quite red, but bright copper-rose, green halo on most, excellent luster! Small freshwater! Have a good laugh on me! 🤣

Kim, sherbet colors, yum!! Are those 2 strands? What size are the pearls? What will you make?

What kind of pearls and Damaged or what?

Well, I tried it on Etsy ~ ;) You might want to consider alternating with smaller pinkish or bronze pearls or a neutral gemstone to have additional length and give you the option of removing the most damaged pearls. It will be fun to see what you come up with.

Tale of taking apart two 18-inch Tahitian strands

Tiger, this was a big project to tackle with your beautiful T's and congratulations, well done!! I'm certain you will reach for these pieces often! When I am working with doubled size 30 and find it isn't heavy enough, this is my solution: Take one strand of either size 30 or size 40 the...

    Ruined pearls or what happened?

You might want to give the pearls a bath and make sure the dye is stable. Agree with Jeremy, good beading quality pearls.

What kind of pearls and Damaged or what?

Well, my hunch is freshwater pearls, probably not bead nucleated. We affectionately called this color "pondslime," having varigated colors with bronze, tan, gold, lavender shades. What size are these pearls?

Do I need knots between each pearls for this? Lots of pearl strands.

Maybe create a section on temp strands; I can't always visualize, so a "sample" helps me. You may decide against mixing the shapes. Imo, the "rice krispy" pearls have a pleasant flow and may drape better in this design than the nugget shape, which will be fun in a different necklace.

Do I need knots between each pearls for this? Lots of pearl strands.

A Breaker, Serafil will be strong enough, recommend doubled thread and some knots spaced, as Wendy recommends, but not between every pearl. What an amazing project and we look forward to seeing the finished necklace!

    Real vs Fake Mikimoto

Olive.D, what do you know about the history of this pendant? Agree with Douglas, not Mikimoto's usual style. Here's a sold item from 1stDibs, one photo shows the Miki logo inside the shank. Scroll down below the "similar items" to see the listing and large photos. I googled "vintage Mikimoto...

Stick pearls need restring, need advice.

If you have some small seed beads or pearls, maybe 3mm or so, you might test and see if that will allow the pearls to lay flat when when alternated and knotted. I agree, what a fun color and unique look! Serafil should work fine. :)

    Pearl lot I’d help

Thanks for sharing photos of your pearl lot. It's difficult to identify pearls through plastic bags, but it seems like most of the pearls are freshwater. The small dark pearls in the bin look like dyed freshwater. I do see a tag that says " product of Japan" probably indicates Akoya pearls...

First Purchase-What Quality or Any Info on?

True! Pearls are on the larger side, so perhaps that was a factor also?

First Purchase-What Quality or Any Info on?

Cathy, yes, I think that's correct. I watched a lot of QVC back in the days, though none of my Honora pearls had that particular clasp. I do give Honora credit for educating so many about freshwater pearls and making us feel we could buy pearl jewelry for ourselves.
