    Guidance needed for mikimoto strand

After I enlarged the photo, it easy to see how stretched the thread in between the pearls. I imagine it was an 18 inch strand originally, and restringing as Jeremy suggests will shorten to the original length. Enjoy!

    StarryPearl's thread

What's great about being adjustable is that the length can suit the neckline and the wearer's preference. I've seen these variations on all genders. Love the motto and the pearl!

    Linda's Lowly Beading Adventures

Gorgeous, Linda! Love love love how the bead shape repeats in the clasp!

    Fuzzy knots

I agree, normal wear. Remember that on a bracelet you are getting significantly more movement as it drapes, flexes and rolls around your wrist. That will result in the wear showing more quickly. The knots still look tight and tidy overall, imo.

    My "Pearling" Story...

We're all just playing in the pearls and loving it, aren't we??!! It's never too late ~ I didn't even learn to knot until I was in my 60's.

    Pearl ID help please

Oh, this is interesting! Is the underside of the mounting open so you could show us in a photo? An abalone pearl usually has some flaws and a "seam," this pearl appears to be smooth from the photos. IMO, if not abalone, saltwater keshi, could be Tahitian or Blue SS. Curious what others will...

    My "Pearling" Story...

MOPTrumpet, So sorry to hear about your injury; I hope you are recovering well! Love the pearl and aquamarine combo! (And so many others, too!)

Hey everyone , are these white south sea pearls 🙂 , i inherited these from my grandmother 👵

Kayla, thanks for sharing the photos of your pearls. StarryPearl, it definitely helps to have the additional information you asked for plus a photo on white background. The luster and blemishes make the pearls appear to be freshwater pearls to me. Also the clasp is very basic and unlikely to...

How to fix loose end of knot myself?

Ahh, now I see that a contrasting thread was used. Such pretty pearls, "Rose" would be a lovely compliment. I love your sentimental connection to these gorgeous pearls!

How to fix loose end of knot myself?

eSinger, so sorry this has happened! I'm all for stringing back through 3 pearls with a dab of glue, too. Wondering what the darkened area is near the knot? Wondering if the stringer tried to use a thread burner or thread zapper or cigarette lighter to melt the thread? Does that thread look...

So proud of this set. I’m new to pearl stringing

Brenda, you have done an amazing stringing job and that stunning clasp is an inspiration for sure! I love the pearls you've chosen, too! Yes, I still today have to test the thread with the beginning and ending pearls and ream if necessary. I still hold my breath on those last 3 pearls!! I...

    Tahitians?

Well, totally get why you would consider bead cups under the circumstances. I do think replacing the pearl is a better choice, though probably slightly more costly than bead cups. As the strand is multicolor, so you will have more choices for color.

    Tahitians?

There's a very pleasing flow with the multi colors and harmonious shapes of the pearls; no need for bead cups, imo.

    Mikimoto vintage assistance please

Thanks for the photos of the lovely pearls and case. I'm not able to make out the markings on the clasp. Yes, I think it would be worth it to take them to Mikimoto in Toyko; they would be able to authenticate. Do you have a loupe? Yes, because of the age the silk will have deteriorated and...

    Mikimoto pearls

I agree with BWeaves, best idea is to have Mikimoto restring your gorgeous pearls with their clasp.

Hello, I found this piece inside an oyster. Is it possible to know the type and value?

This photo seems a bit out of focus, but seems a lustrous and pretty blister pearl with a fun story! Perhaps the edge could be smoothed a little and a hole drilled to make into a pendant?
