    IDing these pearls

Perhaps you could pick out the best pearls, like 5, that hopefully don't show damage and have them strung on a simple gold-filled or silver chain. Dying the beads probably will make the finish peel off even more.

Stacking pearls with other types of necklaces?

MM, Just my opinion, yes, they should be fine to layer. I often layer my pearls and enjoy that look on others.

    I think it's around 150-200 years old

What sort of "pearl expert" did you find? They should have told you that is significant damage on the large pearl. I've never seen any natural or cultured pearls with the sort of textured surface seen on the knotted strand, and I've seen lots of pearls over the years. Perhaps someone else...

    Help identify this Pearl Ring

The roundness of the pearls, size and pink overtone point to Akoya pearls. Pretty ring! Good photos, too!

    I think it's around 150-200 years old

It seems to me the bands all run parallel east-west, and are likely a factor of the xray, not representative of what is inside the pearls. Actual striped mop nucleus would present more varied angles. I look forward to finding out more about these pearls. The interesting brownish beads are...

    Restringing jade

Beautiful jade beads, wish I knew more about jadeite jade! If you have plenty of length, of course remove the dark beads. As for the beads with uneven holes: 1. Test with your planned thread size (thank you so much for your purchase!) and make sure knots block the holes well. If the hole is...

    Help identify maker please

Thank you, these photos are clearer. My thought is that these are good quality freshwater pearls set in the 14k mountings. The oval drops are common in freshwater pearls. The luster seems more like freshwater than Akoya. In the photo with the pair of earrings, the top right pearl in the side...

    Help identify maker please

Welcome to the forum, lazymendoza. The photo is not very clear; please if possible retake on a white paper towel. We may be able to tell if the pearls are Akoya or Freshwater. It's unlikely we would be able to identify the maker. Is the back of the earring marked 14k or 585, 18k or 750?

Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

How delightful and amazing to see all those gorgeous rare conch pearls! Yes, this double rope was my favorite of the show also! I'm sure it will be treasured!

    Which clasp should I use?

The pearls appear to be graduated to the point that you probably wouldn't want to wear the clasp at the side, so I'd choose the smaller gold clasp for these. The Sapphire clasp would be lovely on a larger strand where it could be worn at the side of the neck or at the back, imo. Of course, it's...

    Superficial scratch or discoloration?

Thanks very much for confirming, Yens. That percentage of lower quality does make sense.

    Superficial scratch or discoloration?

Yens, have you also seen this kind of blemish on dyed pearls?

New arrival SSP should I keep?

For that kind of money you should be able to see photos of the actual necklace you are purchasing. And yes, when you see your strand in real life, it will make your heart sing!
