    ?The Great Pearl Heist?

Nope. They are just identical stories and the cast of characters have names that are coincidently almost completely similar. Crazy ain't it?

    ?The Great Pearl Heist?

I stumbled across this book today and thought some here might like it. An elegant crime boss, a mild-mannered detective and the world's most valuable necklace make for a ripping yarn A tall, elegant crime boss; a mild-mannered but brilliant police inspector; a volatile Spanish jeweler; an...

Japanese shipwreck secrets to be unlocked

The Arafura Sea off the Northern Territory coast can be a treacherous stretch of water during a storm. So it was in 1937 when Japanese pearling mother ship the Sanyo Maru went down in Boucaut Bay, with 20 people aboard and about 200 tonnes of mother of pearl, worth about 70,000 pounds at the...

A group that is trying to improve the health of the Nakagawa Canal in Nagoya is attempting to produce pearls in it to purify the water. So far, Ise-wan Forum (Ise Bay Forum) has managed to create "baby pearls" with thin layers of nacre around each bead. The nonprofit organization now wants to...

Wisconsin-USA pearl rush of 19th century

Hi Amanda, I was commenting on Pearl Man's post. But don't think you are off the hook. The ghosts of the mussels you kill will come to you in the night looking for their pearls. If they don't find them do you know what they do?? Well, I had better not say. But it ain't pretty.

Wisconsin-USA pearl rush of 19th century

It is illegal to harvest mussels in Wisconsin for pearl hunting or commercial clamming. Most states are closed to the harvest of mussels for pearls. As a fisherman you are allowed a small number of mussels for bait with a fishing license. I think Minnesota allows 24 mussels, and still you want...

Can these be called faceted pearls?

I think they are the same. Like some round nucleated pearls become baroque or semi-round I think these "diamond" shaped nucleated pearls have different forms. BTW I call them Diamond shaped but they aren't actually all symmetrically faceted. I like them even though I am in the round nuclei...

Can these be called faceted pearls?

Funny because we have been calling them "diamond nucleated" for the past couple of years because of the faceted look.

    Nacra synthesized by Cambridge University

Interesting Ebay is concerned about Ivory when I was just discussing with them yesterday why they allow Chinese vendors to sell Purple freshwater boroque pearls as Australian South Sea pearls...

    Nacra synthesized by Cambridge University

If wooden teeth were good enough for our founding fathers.....Seriously though. Why not work on synthetic Ivory? It's endangered and oddly enough it's white.

    Nacra synthesized by Cambridge University

Maybe they should concentrate on curing cancer or something of greater consequence instead of trying to find ways of destroying the romance of the pearl. I am amazed that someone spends money trying to do such a thing. Maybe next they will synthesis love.......Sorry but I sometimes have opinions ;)

A river pearl (I think...give me your two cents!), and a little thrift-store find.

The pearl in the stick pin is a river pearl. I have some that I found myself in the Mississippi that are identical. It's what we call a rosebud pearl.
