This is how I understand the terms, too. I feel that the base color/undertone of the pearl never changes, but the other factors can change with the quality of the light. For example, Tahitian pearls seem to look best on rainy days, the diffused light is flattering to them.

I remember reading a long time ago, powerful women wear pearls because it's the jewelry that does not detract from what they're saying. An observer mentally notes 'pearls,' but doesn't focus on them. Nancy Pelosi is a good example, she always seems to wear pearls or beads.

I've seen their advertisements in high-end luxury magazines, like Town & Country. Very expensive. It's my impression that they focus on the design of the entire piece, using gold, etc., and not so much simple pearl strands.

Larger pearls are heavier, something to keep in mind. My long strand (30"? I forget) is graduated. I like that it always hangs correctly.

Do you mean multicolor? When I think "ombre," I think of the way the pearls are strung, from dark to light and back again, as opposed to different colors strung together. I'd also like to speak up for Tahitians with pink overtones. Highlights, if you will. :D
