Any thoughts on this necklace, are they south sea pearls?

The round spot on the middle photo is a typical flaw found on freshwater pearls....

Question about FWP changing color and luster

Pearl Dreams - it is the bead nucleated "Edison" pearls that seem to change colour with time not the "solid nacre" freshwaters.

Question about FWP changing color and luster

Katbran - from my experience - it is the darker colours - strong "purple" and deep orange that seem to change most. The first few years of production there were very few whites if any, many soft pinks and oranges and very few deep purple colours. I selected mainly the rare colours which were...

Question about FWP changing color and luster

I do not "think" that some have faded. The colour HAS changed. I suggest you come up with a verifiable method to show how pearls you purchased years ago have changed colour. Do you really photograph all you buy against a known colour chart? Really? And would that suffice for someone like you who...

Question about FWP changing color and luster

Pearlescence - I take it from the tone of your reply that you doubt the veracity of what I am saying. I suppose you either have a vested interest or you feel that your negative tone gets you places in life. I don't particularly care which! I am certain however that I was the earliest customer...

Question about FWP changing color and luster

Katbran - for the sake of clarity ... it is not "just one pearl". It is a series of pearls of the early "Edison" production. The darker colours - in my opinion - do become lighter colour over time. As one of the earliest adopters of this product - if not the earliest - I feel it is my...

    Are these south sea pearls?

We used to produce a quantity of colour enhanced Tahitian pearls in brown colour but about 7 years ago we stopped treating pearls. Today we only sell natural colour pearls. The colour of the pearls in all of the above images were achievable but not natural. There were and are a number of...

    Hong Kong

The lack of aircon at the show is killing me! By the time I have set up I need a shower! I (stupidly) wore a suit yesterday thinking that for the actual show days they would make it a pleasant place to be..... I am ditching the suit today and I bet they make it like a fridge ......

Hong Kong Jewelry Show September 2017 and Facebook LIVE!

Have just spent all day in the pearl hall setting up the show for tomorrow..... they had no aircon on till the afternoon..... it was like a sauna. Look forward to meeting any of you who make it down to the show.

    Southsea Pearl vs Edison Pearls

Jeremy - I think that keeping pearls in a "sealed plastic bag" does not duplicate how pearls might look after a decade of wear. I agree with you that the metallic lustre is naturally occurring. I also agree that freshwater pearls generally get a bad rap on the durability front - I think they are...

    Southsea Pearl vs Edison Pearls

It's a pity you never came to the Basel show in 2012. The entire harvest was on my stand for all to see .....

    Southsea Pearl vs Edison Pearls

I believe the first pearls were in 2005/6 and by 2007 there was already quite a significant production.

    Southsea Pearl vs Edison Pearls

Eileen - It was in 2012 and was many millions of US dollars in value. I think most people can guess which supplier it was - it is not really sensible to state ones suppliers on an open forum. By 2012 we had already worked for many years with that supplier with "Edison" pearls.

    Southsea Pearl vs Edison Pearls

As promised - an image taken today. These is strangely quite a lot of sunlight in London today (Rare!) - so this one is much better lit than the original above. My opinion is that the lustre and colour are not what they once were. This particular piece - due to the value tends to be kept in a...

    Southsea Pearl vs Edison Pearls

I will be at the London Show (A89), Hong Kong (1E38) and Vicenza (6-225) next month (We are closed on Saturdays). I will take a selection of very early harvest Edison's to all 3 shows for any of you to inspect and discuss. As for the pendant above - I will try to take a photo of it today for...

    Southsea Pearl vs Edison Pearls

I still have the pendant - how do I now take a photo under the same lighting conditions? The shot above was done by a professional photographer some 7 years ago ..... I know that the pearl is not what it once was .....

    Southsea Pearl vs Edison Pearls

This pendant was made with the largest baroque from one of the very first harvests.
