Help with an intricate pearl “bib”?

Does anyone have any tips on where to start with this one? I have done 2 and 3 layer pearl strands when they go all the way around, but nothing with so many layers and graduated. It is a type of stringing I would love to perfect, and now I have a customer who has given me the opportunity to...

    First Rope for 2021

Thank you so much for the insight Bernadette! I can understand there would have been overnight benders throughout your career. So many of the retail jewellery stores here send their pearl/bead repairs “Over East”, that I know there is some opportunity here. I also love the private repair...

    First Rope for 2021

Thanks Pattye! I am thinking of selling some pieces, but still playing with the right ‘style’ or collection to start with that’s just a bit different than what’s out there now. I had fun with the potpourri rope and adding some fun beaders secret colours might be the way to go!

    First Rope for 2021

Thank you Charlotta! I am lucky to be based in Western Australia, so plenty of South Sea retailers (and producers!). I’m also finding that now people are becoming more sustainable and conscious of not being a “throw away” society, they are now more inclined to get their favourite piece repaired...

    First Rope for 2021

Happy New Year!! A bit of a de-stash for the start of the year and came up with this. My first of many (hopefully) this year. I’ve been so busy stringing in December that my new goal for 2021 is to be stringing full time and quit my day job :) This is the year to do it!! How many here string...

    How do I revive these?

Thanks everyone for your input. Will restring as is, and give them a nice little wipe with oil. I knew I couldn't bring them back to their former glory, and I don't think she actually realises how far gone they are. With all my restrings I give the pearls and clasps a clean, wrap in soft...

    How do I revive these?

The pearls are worn around the holes, just not as much as around the middle. And the silk, is not silk so they must have been re-strung just VERY badly....no french wire, one sterling silver jump ring on the end. Layers of nacre are coming off the ends, like little donuts. You can see one...

    How do I revive these?

Re-stringing pearls is generally an easy thing for me, unless clients bring me pearls that look like this. Apparently re-strung 3 years ago, which I highly doubt, and have been worn for more than 10 years straight (eek!). Unfortunately she had no knowledge of what...

Fireball Pearls....Which way is preferred sitting on the neck?

Geez thanks for giving me more options! haha. They are graduated 18-24mm and already drilled. They were originally strung on wire with horrible long plastic beads between them (who would do this????) Good idea to temporarily string them up and see how they sit. Will do this later...

Fireball Pearls....Which way is preferred sitting on the neck?

I have never strung fireballs before, but have a fairly nice 18-22mm strand to do for a client. Half the images I've found online are of the pearls all facing the same way eg. all facing their little tails the same way around the neck... And the other half are of the pearls all pointing up...

    7.2 Feet of Pearls

20 yards was more than enough Cicadalady . Got into one or two tricky situations, but it turned out easier than I thought. Interesting client...HE is delighted with them and is going to wear them with pride. I also did a strand of 18mm black/peacock shell pearls on a rose gold clasp, and...

    7.2 Feet of Pearls

Had to post pictures of my most recent challenge. A client wanted 5 strands of shell pearls strung on to the one thread. Patricia Saab helped me with the perfect colour of beaders secret...and off I went! Was very therapeutic but glad it's over!

Bit of a mouth-full! But amazing product, fascinating process and gorgeous strand! Are they still experimenting with the process or do you think they will be more readily available by say.....next March HK fair???? :)

    New rope...

Beautiful rope! IMO...rope length shouldn't rely on 'normal middle-class work-life experience'....it should rely on what makes you feel a million dollars! :)

...could this necklace be natural pearls?

The clasp actually looks like it would have held four strands, if the safety clasp was removed. Would have been a beautiful piece when originally created.

    Help! "How to" seed pearls?

I've recently done a seed pearl strand and definitely did a few things different. First tried using power pro but there was no weight to the strand for a nice drape so used silk. I knotted the last 5 pearls and had to leave the rest a little loose so there were no kinks. A bit of trial and...
