    Vintage pearl ring

I wonder if the ring was worn against another one for it to seem ‘rubbed away’ or worn down. I’ve seen many vintage pieces with whole settings worn away because their loving owners would wear them day and and day out against other pieces. It seems that might be why the claw/prong holding it is...

From the sublime to the ridiculous...

I wonder what the aging rockers would look like strung together with some white, round akoyas as a contrast? It might be like rocking up to the Ritz on a Harley??

    Getting a pearl ring wet

I don’t know where the “toothpaste to clean jewellery” idea first came about...maybe when cleaning silver wear and brass candlesticks with silver paste or Brasso was the norm mid-century, but I definitely think the additives and abrasives in toothpaste should be a no go for pearls. Just my...

You could totally pull that off Pearly Sue! Even if it was just to pop to the shops for some milk ;)

    Identifying mom's pearls

It looks like maybe the pearls from the third strand were added to the other two strands to make a longer piece? Hence the mis-matched colours throughout? The clasp is beautiful. Hope some of the experts can chime in here!

Help me confirm the origin of these pearls

My goodness jc12345, what a terrible thing that has happened! But what shines through in your story is how you want your wife to be able to wear these pearls with love. I am sure they will be completely transformed once restrung and she will wear them always. A beautiful gift from your mother...

Help with an intricate pearl “bib”?

And....I’m done! And....I’m done! Half way through dis-assembly... First rows back together... And we’re finished... Lisa C the client had 7 of the 9 missing pearls, so I replaced two of them. Lady_Disdain I did ask if she wanted a new clasp but was happy with the original. Pretty happy...

    Pinctada mazatlanica?

Love the fact that not only did Douglas recognise that what the jewellery channel was saying was completely wrong, but he recognised his own hand!

Help with an intricate pearl “bib”?

Hi Bernadette....restringing the whole piece. I have never considered just repairing one section of a necklace, just figured if there’s one break in a thread it won’t be long until there’s another. Thanks Pattye! Tracking the hours but also taking the time to teach myself layouts and thread...

Help with an intricate pearl “bib”?

So it turns out the pearls are faux, but that’s not an entirely bad thing as the holes are nice and big for multiple passes through! My customer is still determined to get it repaired so here I go!

    Inherited Necklace

Hi Alg...the three photos with the hand in them seem quite distorted, which I think maybe why Douglas mentioned the two last pearls seem bigger? Are we able to see a picture of the whole necklace flat on a white background? Are there any markings on the clasp? Beautiful creamy coloured pearls...

Can anyone identify the pearls by this clasp?

What an amazing clasp, have never seen one like that before. Would something like this still be in production? I know a lot of older clients who would love the ease of fastening a clasp like that.

Thanks for your tips Marianne! I haven’t even seen the piece in person yet, just got sent the photo yesterday. Will try and get hold of it to gauge how big the holes are etc. I know Douglas! Even my husband says not to take this one on :D
