Silly question: can creamy WSS be bleached to white WSS?

CortezPearls Does any insurance company provide insurance for this kind of damage? Like when we buy a house, there are insurance plans for flood, theft, etc.. Natural disasters seem more and more severe and frequently. The effect of climate change is more and more obvious. :(

    My first WSS rope

Charlotta, gorgeous akoya, exquisite craftsmanship, beautiful tassel. $10 for a strand is just unbelievable! The seller has my respect for honoring such a low bid price. Hope s/he's learned a lesson.

    My first WSS rope

Charlotta Haha, you win . $22 is a steal, for a 16 inch strand? I wonder if it could cover the shell and grafting fees, probably not. Beautiful bracelet, as always!

    My first WSS rope

Thanks, Charlotta, multichrome, and pattye. Cream color is thought to be of lowest value in WSS, but it can be pretty, too. :)

How to start a Pearl Farm

Thanks a lot, Caitlin. I am just in need of such a book. Such great material, feel like back to school. Can anyone tell me what species is this olive color in the middle representing in Figure 4 on page 13? The denotation is very blurry. I get the yellow and the green, but not this olive...

My first floating Tahitian pendant, and "how" I made it.

Thanks, Katbran! I do have a rotary drill, bought it 12 years ago from FireMountainGems. I used to use it a lot, but its steadiness is a off. Say if I use a needle thin drill bit, when the drill is on, the drill bit doesn't stay where it is, instead its end moves in a small round area. Not sure...

    My first WSS rope

This rope of circled cream WSS is very affordable - I suspect it's the lowest price WSS rope on this forum. I love its relaxing shape, and I made it to wear everyday everywhere without feeling any burden. It was made two weeks ago, after the Tahitian rope, before the pendant. I took photos on...

    Mystery Necklace

Hello ColeJordan, Welcome to the forum! Your clasp is gorgeous. The pearls look round and smooth, therefore Akoya is my best guess. Is it possible to get some better pictures? I feel hard to rule out freshwater with enough confidence. I am no expert though. Our expert fellows are on their way...

Silly question: can creamy WSS be bleached to white WSS?

@CortezPearls, thanks for sharing the info and story and pictures. Good point fishermen don't have X-ray machine. I thought of this but then I thought if people use X-ray to check bead retaining, they can certainly check pearls, totally forgetting those are "farmers" who culture pearls, not...

Silly question: can creamy WSS be bleached to white WSS?

Thank you for bringing that up, @Pearl Dreams, and thanks for clarifying, @CortezPearls.I was thinking if people were to hunt for the pearls, why don't they just X-ray the shells, that will save so much time and labor. So I thought maybe they were primarily after the beautiful pink conch shells...

My first floating Tahitian pendant, and "how" I made it.

Thank you, BWeaves, for sharing your story! I can't imagine a necklace with "most of the nuclei" being loose, much less akoya, whose nacre is thinnest among all kinds. It must have been frustrating to string. I only strung one pearl like that once and that was a big Tahitian and it took me...

My first floating Tahitian pendant, and "how" I made it.

Thanks, eolian! The luster is indeed good on this side. I just took another two photos that showed better reflection - evening light is weird now - and it looked even better in person. The photos don't do it justice. I love floating necklaces, too! :D (pics removed for privacy : )

Thank you, Charlotta. I am sorry to hear you broke a reamer in your pearl. Despite not usable on jewelry, I am sure it has other ways to show off its beauty. I bought my reamers from Wen and it came in 3/pk. Now I know why. :p

I like the surface and luster of your blue akoya. The cmw's and Wendy's blue Tahitian strands are sensational.

Good morning CortezPearls! So glad to see your reply. I was puzzled if my new post was again awaiting approval and nobody could see it. Phew! Thank you for your compliments on the pearl and the photos. The moment I saw the inside of drill hole, I knew I should take a picture and share it. ;)
