Thanks for sharing, Wendy! Your bonus necklace looks stunning and I can barely see any flaw on it. It has interesting colors!

Need help from experts - what happened to this WSS pearl?

Thanks for sharing your experience, Katbran! This is what puzzles me most: how can a pearl crack itself inside the shell... it's not like a hatchling is pecking from inside or something...

Need help from experts - what happened to this WSS pearl?

Yes, CortezPearls . Maybe some day in future I really cannot stand the curiosity and then I will cut it open - already watched a tutorial on Youtube how to cut a pearl without power tool :cool2: - unless some other expert in the forum is able to provide a definite explanation.

Need help from experts - what happened to this WSS pearl?

Update: I just heard back from the seller. She said this was a natural occurrence as the pearl grows and was not caused by drilling, and that she had seen this in quite a few large pearls over the years. She certainly did offer me to return if I was not happy with it. I am keeping the pearl so...

    Japanese Akoya Mortality

I am no expert on this, but this topic does remind me of the abnormal extreme weather caused by climate change in many places all over the world during the past year(s?). There are hot places that suddenly got very cold, cool places that got extremely hot unexpectedly, and not-wet places that...

Need help from experts - what happened to this WSS pearl?

Thank you so much for sharing such interesting experience, Douglas, I appreciate it! It's interesting that this was also seen on undrilled pearls... I have decided to keep this pearl. It has beautiful surface and I love its shape and size, and now there is mystery added. 20-30 years...

Need help from experts - what happened to this WSS pearl?

My recent purchase of a lovely WSS drop shows something I've never seen: There seems to be a flat surface near the tip of the drop, virtually dividing the pearl into two parts that reflect light differently. When I look at the surface around the "cutting disc" carefully, I can see some very fine...

Bit into a pearl eating oysters

Haha, can this pearl be sold for some money to buy more oysters to eat? :p I once bit into a pearl from oyster. It was a gray one and a bit smaller than yours. I regret throwing it away... :02:

Pearl Farming en Espanol :) means in Latin America

Hi Douglas! I read the article in the link and watched the video. I was a little surprised when I saw in the picture that the lady was using a jeweler's saw instead of a power tool to cut the MOP, until when I saw the 3-table set up etc. I am both touched and impressed. If I were single and had...

Made a new necklace with half strand of Tahitian pearls

Thank you so much, Pearl Dreams, eolian pearls, BWeaves, and Jeremy, for your kind words and for liking my self-designed and self-made clasp. :D I am so flattered that I almost want to register a patent for it.:lmao: Pearl Dreams, I heard of a similar method and tried it many years ago, before...

Made a new necklace with half strand of Tahitian pearls

This long weekend I stayed at home and made a new necklace. The pearls came in half strand. Many of them have beautiful bands, and a few have a rainbow on them. The picture was taken after pearls were rearranged. When I was placing the order, I was thinking of making a tin cup necklace out of...

My first floating Tahitian pendant, and "how" I made it.

Thank you, Charlotta and Happy Huku. Thanks CortezPearls ! I have been taking it on 4 times a day and taking it off 4 times a day (3 because of cooking and 1 before going to bed) - that's a lot extra work! :jester: Thank you, eolian pearls. Yes, I am very happy with it. To my surprise, the...
