Scotland's Bill Abernethy and the Last Pearl Fisherman passed Away

I do wish the pearl will remain in Scotland and in a Museum for all to admire! Many years ago I was approached by some Scots that wanted to produce cultured pearls...and I was totally THRILLED. The project could not even have a chance, due to environmental laws & regulations...but it was nice to...

Scotland's Bill Abernethy and the Last Pearl Fisherman passed Away

Thanks for this update @Pomelo ! I have recently revisited the info on this pearl and this will be helpful for me :arms: Where did you find the photo you shared? I want to see if I can get permission to use it.

    Another Fake giant clam pearl

I think I will just do this with the next ones: DELETE them. But these posts are also valuable in case some unsuspecting person -potential buyer- looks for info about a "ginormous pearl" they are being offered and then they find our threads and Bazinga! they become informed and avoid the scam...

    Keshi pearl valuation

Yes, but as an example: Cortez Keshi pearls are more valuable than Cortez beaded pearls...on a gram per gram basis. It would make more sense to grow Keshi pearls than cultured beaded pearls there, since the pearl oyster species is so small and its pearl sac so restricted.

    Help...are these real SSP?

Hi there 1966Lulu. Hard to say with these photos...but lemme give it a try. 1. First pair looks like SSPs, but I don't know if I am seeing something similar to an imitation pearl, near the drill hole area. 2. Guessing photo 2 and 5 are the same? Same box, shape & pendant style? Could be SSPs...

    Keshi pearl valuation

I would recommend you invest in selling jewelry, alongside unset pearls. Invest little, sell it and then reinvest the money in having more jewelry products. Some settings (rings) involve more metal (gold, silver) so maybe you would start with small pendants, bracelets, earrings and necklaces in...

Increasing the purpleness of beaded freshwater pearls

This is one fascinating subject...and of course: we don't just have Genetics these days, but we also have Epigenetics. Most "spat" (post-larvae) labs are State funded, in order to serve all farms: private & public, big & small. Thus, they can best serve their public by having highly skilled...

Quahog ? If any one has suggestions on best lighting and back ground for pics id love to hear it Thankx Everybody

I agree with Jeremy. The dark ones...I just could not see them as pearls at all, but I believed the photos were so bad that they just didn't seem like pearls. Those Quahog samples shared by Jeremy are what we all understand as Quahog pearls.

These are gorgeous! It would be great to see a pearl farmer going this way and producing keshi pearls.

    Another Fake giant clam pearl

Getting tired of these "Giant Clam Pearl" posts. I mean...it's just so darn easy to discern a true pearl from a piece of shell.

Quahog ? If any one has suggestions on best lighting and back ground for pics id love to hear it Thankx Everybody

Hi there @Robby Russell and welcome to our forum. Nice catch with these Quahog pearls. The light colored ones seem well photographed, but the dark ones seem to have too much light, which may make them look much darker and have them lose their more subtle features. You can try and photographing...
