I've heard the term "freshwater akoya" floating around for the past couple of years. I think it is a way some sellers have been marketing their freshwater higher quality pearls. There is no such thing of course, but I think they are referring to bead nucleated smaller (akoya sized) freshwater...

A few of the vendors are doing these virtual presentations. While I love the idea of working with Columbia Gem House this way (I may have recently purchased a small hoard of Sea of Cortez mabes) there is nothing that can compare to the excitement of selecting your stones and pearls in person...

Since we're on the subject, I came across this clamp which looks like a brilliant device to ensure proper positioning. I think an old fashioned wooden clothes pin with a V cut out of it might also do the trick.
