I have some gold colored base metal that tarnish in a wonderfully rock'n'roll sort of way :) I used it for the necklace with the wired Tahitians in the picture and will use it for the pinked Akoyas too. I wouldn't have bought that strand if I had thought about it (some years back) but I can't...
I had one Akoya strand, baroque and very pretty except I have never really been comfortable with it being bleached and pinked. I know it's common practice but it feels wrong to me.
So I've been eyeing untreated white strands except they are Hanadama quality with a price tag to match. I ended up...

They are CRAZY small! Finding those holes... But I am wearing it today, layered with another short necklace with garnets. So it's already paid off for me to reconstruct them. Never mind that the gimp is a little long.
Additional info is that I used a single thead (possible since the needle...
Done!
I got some Griffin nylon thread with the built-in needle from a local source (overseas shipping was too high for any other choice) and now I am done! I knotted every 7-8 keshi. I put the capo in for size comparison. Unfortunately it means that it is the one in focus...
That cameo look is really interesting. But wondering, like BWeaves, how it can be worn so high without (literally) choking you. Also wondering if it is possible to use a cameo that is a broche with no loop to use a pendant.
Could the extra loop on the white strand in the painting be a kind of...
Trust is something that is built over time - based on our interactions with a specific part, others experiences, our experiences from the past. If it lands in a place where our trust is betrayed, it's often easy afterwards to see the signs but while in it, it isn't. I've trusted people with a...
I agree that for pearls, it's worth it to buy them outside of the EU. I mostly have. It's the smaller purchases, just crossing the line of $12, that are tricky. This is even for used items or things you couldn't get inside the EU. Or if something cost $2.5 but you have a $12 shipping fee because...
"You might ask Wendy at Pearlescence if she has some she could sell you."
Unfortunately Brexit now being in effect, puts purchases from the UK in the same booth as anywhere else outside of the EU. Only difference might be shipping costs but that seems to be expensive everywhere.
The EU is changing the rules from this summer - which will be a great help for smaller purchases. Instead of a lower limit and then, BAM, fees on top of the VAT, every purchase from outside the EU will be charged VAT but without any fee. Just the VAT. I don't know if that includes shipping...
I have both a baroque white and gold SSP necklace. The clasps fit together so these days I am wearing them connected like a rope since I can't afford to also get an ombre necklace.
If your wife doesn't have any Tahitians yet, that could be a great choice. Maybe in a length that will allow the...
I believe one choice is in the US and the other in Australia.
Being in Europe, I'll get fleeced either way in customs and fees if something costs more than $12 so first I'll look at what I already have in store. Just needed to get clear about using wire or not and it's 'not' :)
Thank you, Marianne. I'll get some needles too. Almost out, anyway.
I'll cut it apart this afternoon and take a closer look at the size of the holes. Can't believe someone actually drilled them...
