    That totally works!

New here, need help with shopping for akoya pearls :)

You are going to have a very hard time finding anything good and affordable locally. I am in Denmark and I never buy locally. The problem with almost all of the online vendors here, that I know and trust, is that you have to pay duty and VAT to get them to the Eu which makes it hard to return...

    Help needed

As one of our members say - remember there is a head between the two pearls. You won't notice the difference when you wear them. And pearls are an organic gem so it's practically impossible to get them identical. The more you pay, the closer you can get, though.

How Do You Store Your Pearls? Show Us!

Ehh... So, I have piled my 5 strands and a couple of wired pearls strands on two beautiful wooden trays on the counter in my bathroom. They look beautiful and it reminds me to wear, something I wouldn't get to doing otherwise. I am well aware that it is not optimal though at least there is no...

    Looking for a match

You could consider wearing mis-matched to still use them. Several of us have come to love the look of a pair of earrings not matching at all, especially in terms of color. In the this case it would be the setting too. Not pearls, but for a long time I have been wearing a marque diamond on a...

    My "Pearling" Story...

Holy smoke! What a find! Somebody probably cleaned out a house and dumped it all with Goodwill.

Are Pistachio and Chocolate SSPs dyed/color treated?

In the pictures they all seem so uniform in color, I would wonder too. It depends on the price and the source, of course.

    Assistance replacing lost strand

There is also pearls from Cees (Instagram). He found me an untreated Akoya strand at a much lower price point than the untreated Hanadama. he also has many returning customers from Pearl Guide. But - I would try local Katbran first.

    South Sea Keshi project

I have a 16" akoya (tiny teeny) keshi. I use it for layering instead of putting anything extra on it. I was a) afraid of adding anything too heavy that would break the thread, b) didn't want to limit myself.

    Dyed or Natural South Sea?

I know I wouldn't be able to tell with single pearls from a photo. If you want to know their actual color (they look weirdly orang-y to me), try to adjust the color so the paper shows as white on your monitor. I would say it depends on if you trust the seller. If it sounds like you are getting...

What type of pearls do i have?

There isn't such a thing as 'freshwater Tahitian' pearls. Tahiti pearls are saltwater pearls. If you post some photos it is likely we can tell you some more. A way to start your own reserach is to browse some of the website of the vendors that post here, like Pearl Paradise. They usually have...

What type of pearls do i have?

Freshwater pearls are grown in very large quantities and do not have much value if you are thinking of reselling. But it doesn't make them any less beautiful to wear :)

    My "Pearling" Story...

Lovely stories! Thank you. The blue pearls are most likely dyed FW.

HELP - EBay Seller Would Like Information about Possible Tahitian?

It seems to me the plastic coating has piled up around the drill holes. That doesn't look like regular drill holes in real pearls at all. A drill hole might hide a blemish but blemishes don't look like that and you certainly don't find two blemishes that seem identical. I bet the listing will...

    Dyed but South Sea?

Kasumi pearls are only grown in Lake Kasumi in Japan. Telling the difference between the Chinese FWP and the real thing is not always easy which is why you need to know and trust your vendor for something so special as this. There are very few Kasumi pearls available so if in doubt, assume that...

    Dyed but South Sea?

I don't really agree that they look like the pearls fra Lake Kasumi in Japan :-) I have a few myself and they are much lighter in color. They are also not usually uniformly round plus so rare that it would be nearly impossible to collect a whole necklace so uniform in color and shape. Kojima...

    Dyed but South Sea?

I recommend checking some of the online vendors to see what the real thing looks like. It will show you that SSP are never dark. Tahitians can be dark but not those colors and not that kind of baroque shape.

    natural pearls

If you trust the grade of the metal in the settings, you can always pay what you feel that is worth and the pearls will be a bonus. It's also worth keeping in mind that pearls don't hold their value very well. They have a wonder reputation for being super rare but very few of them are and that...
