    What excites you about pearls?

Pattye - most of the time I think it is a matter of lack of knowledge rather than dishonest pratices (not that either is excusable). The enhanced colors are great, but you are right... disclosure is key! Completely forgot to mention Keshi earlier, some of the FW keshi we are seeing lately...

    What excites you about pearls?

That really is the beauty of pearls, that they can speak to each of us in such a different way! *Especially with the coins, I've always found that people either love or hate them with very few neutral opinions. As for the bead nucleated pearls, I don't know if I can argue the necessity of them...

    What excites you about pearls?

Absolutely, I just love the colors in that shot (obviously we helped nature along there a bit as well). I know the low quality coins you are talking about and sadly they give some of the better quality nucleated coins a very bad name. That being said, I totally agree on the tissue nucleated...

    What excites you about pearls?

True, but there are those who really value the whiter high luster akoya over the creamier high luster FW... I am always partial to the brighter the better :) As for the title question, my family has been in pearls for three generations and my time with pearls has been a major evolutionary...

    What excites you about pearls?

To my eyes (which are admitted not good enough yet) that creamy, yet silvery luster where you feel like you need sunglasses always reads as FW to me. You can see that level of luster in Akoya, but not usually the creamy overtone.

    What excites you about pearls?

While they are likely more accurate terms, the last thing I think we need to do is confuse the issue any farther :) The passion of the people here is evident, everyone has also been extremely welcoming to a newbie such as myself.

    What excites you about pearls?

Sueki, out of curiosity, what came first the love of iridescent objects or the passion for pearls? Caitlin, something tells me you are yet to meet a gem quality pearl that you didnt like, regardless of its shape :) I am sure I will get this wrong, but I am thinking it is the one on the bottom...

Tiffany?s Q2 Profit Falls 30%,Still Beats View, Outlook Raised

While I am sure a lot of this is the economy, I wonder how (and if at all) the closing of Iridesse plays into that... Hard to see numbers like that, but at least there is a bit of optimism on the full-year forecast.

    What excites you about pearls?

Especially when you get to watch the pursuit over a long period of time! P.S. Nothing wrong with a Lexus :)

    What excites you about pearls?

Wendy, My favorite is when we hear... I really want a strand of pearls, you know... the cultured ones :). Although occasionally frustrating, those customers always seem anxious to learn more! Steve, of course rounds will always be important to the pearl world (I also have a certain passion for...

    What excites you about pearls?

Steve, you would be amazed how far they have come... while an expert can see the difference and there is always some level of off roundness, the very top, top quality of FW has become truly competitive with Akoya.

    What excites you about pearls?

Every trip Joel and Ralph take overseas meets us with better and better Freshwater pearls. It has been incredible to watch the evolution of these pearls. As for the noobies, it is concerning how much the general pearl loving population can misunderstand pearls... It kills us when people...

    What excites you about pearls?

Poor quality can really do that... it has taken Freshwater Pearls years to get beyond the original stigma of the rice crispy and low luster potato pearls of the 80's and early 90's. Very true what you said about the cross section of a bead nucleated cultured pearl. The near natural growth of...

    What excites you about pearls?

Thank you for suggesting that search! I really enjoyed reading a bit of that history. I am obviously much more familiar with Cultured Pearls and truly enjoyed reading that. Very special that your Grandfather was able to bring not only give you those pearls, but a passion for them at such a...

    What excites you about pearls?

This is my first New Thread post in a new community, so forgive me if everyone has covered this ground. I'd really like to know a bit more about what sparked your passion in pearls. I grew up surrounded by them and have really enjoyed seeing them evolve over the past few years. I've always...

Cultured Pearl Association of America has new Prez

We tend to do that, but it is also nice when someone like Jeremy comes along who did not originally have family ties to the industry. We can both help each other have a bit of faith here... just ask Peter, I needed the same pep talk :)

    Tahitian pricing

Baroque pearls are free form pearls with a mostly smooth surface where Circled Pearls (we actually call these ringed pearls) are grooved during the growth process. Here is a ringed pearl: And here is a Baroque They are Freshwater, not SS or Tahitian, but I think they show the difference...

Cultured Pearl Association of America has new Prez

Understandable and I am aware of that situation (no need to open old wounds :) ) Fran is a member of the Mastoloni family and has always been a good guy in my experience. CPAA is the collective of several pearl dealers working together to help promote pearls as an industry. I honestly cant...
