    I LOVE this!

Yes, absolutely! I would get rid of the necklace and everything below the row of pearls and the row of rhinestones in the front. Replace the row of rhinestones with a wee bit shorter row of pearls. You can't see the back but I'm thinking two rows of pearls in the back, with a lariat kinda...

    I LOVE this!

On our 20th anniversary next year, we are having a wedding. We were married in a courthouse and planned to have a wedding, but never did. So I was looking online for dresses with pearls on them and wedding pearls necklaces, when I came across this. It is a little much for me as it is pictured...

    Another eBay Find....

I agree, for some reason they were very hard to photograph. The first strand is much whiter than the photos and I did a horrible job at cleaning them too. Not sure what they are either. Thanks PD. ~d

    Another eBay Find....

This one is from ebay too. These do need some work though. If they are real I have a similar strand that I want to add the good pearls to, to make one long necklace. They are gritty too, with the largest pearl being 8MM. Thank again for any thoughts on these two strands. ~d

    Another eBay Find....

This is one of my favorite finds. It is really pretty on. They are gritty when rubbed together. The price I paid and how I found them makes me a wee bit rskeptical. But I really think that they were not purchased in their original box. The seller bought them at an estate sale and sold them on...

    More Mysterious Mollusk Material?

Hi Anne21, I have three like this. I would be cool if there was a way to research them through some kind of database. I also have one with two arrows pointing up. I searched and someone had asked about the marking before on here but got no replies. That is the marking on a strand that I have...

Hair or black thread used instead of gimp?

Hi Bernadette, Thank you so much for your reply. I gotta say initially, it disturbed me a bit. I was worried about it being human hair, which seemed so macabre to me. If it is horse hair, then I'm totally ok with that. I would like to find a nice book on the history of pearls. I have read a...

Hair or black thread used instead of gimp?

Hi all, I bought a strand of pearls that are suppose to be from the 30s or 40s but it doesn't have the metal gimp. It's has what looks like hair or black thread instead. Is this normal? I was about to restring them when I noticed it. I appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks so much. ~d

    What's this called?

It looks like the MOP bead is showing that was used as the nucleus to make the pearl. I'm not a fan of it showing either. I did restring my strand to remove them as well.

    Yamamoto saltwater pearls

Hi Anne21, I have no idea about the box. I bought this strand on ebay for $25 and threw the box away. I never keep them, I didn't even think to keep them. Maybe i should from now on. Thanks for pointing out that they look to be graduated. I had no idea that a little over a half mm made that much...

    Yamamoto saltwater pearls

Hi Anne21, Can you tell me which thread did you read with info on the oyster pacman mark? What does it mean? I must admit I have bought quite a few pearls since the first Akoya strand I found. I have a pinkish stand that has a symbol like that and would love to know what it means. Thank you so...

LOL :) Boy do I feel silly now. Thread does make sense. Oh well, With all the shortcuts, abbreviations and very little sleep, I honestly thought it was an unfamiliar term for something. I do see what you are saying though. I bought the glue but now I'm thinking I may see what a jeweler would...

GemGeek, Thank you very much. ;) What is tbread? I googled it and came up empty  Caitlin, I would like nicer pearls. I am new to pearls and thought that I could buy nice ones from there. The pearls at the bead shop are just the ones in the photo nothing fancy. I thought they were all...

    A permanent fix needed

Thank you so much Caitlin! I do love them so :D PD, It looks like they made the charm altogether with the pin part and then added the bead and then melted the gold at the end of the bead in to a ball, if that makes sense? The pin part coming out of the gold part is all soldered together, so...

PD, you are absolutely right. It is a head pin that broke in the middle. I will buy the bead reamer you suggested and go back to the bead store to look for the two part epoxy. Do you buy pearls from the art bead website you suggested to me? I'm looking for pink or white pearls about 7 - 8MM...

    A permanent fix needed

Hi All! I figured this was the best place to ask. I buy a lot of vintage pieces, so it's not easy to get them repaired. My pieces usually come back nothing like they received them. So I'm hoping maybe you nice folks can help me fix this. I will attach the original photos so you can get an idea...

This came with pearls I bought on ebay. How do you use it?

Thanks juliebeth, it is kinda small. PD, You are so nice to find this. Thank you so much. I will give it another try. I can't believe they sell for that much, what a surprise. They gave it to me with the necklace, that was very nice of them. I will play around with it on a longer necklace. The...

This came with pearls I bought on ebay. How do you use it?

Thank you Wendy, I will check them. I need to find some other thread options. I got power pro but the wrong weight and you can't find white in stores. PD, Thank you so much. I would have never thought of the thread stretching. You really saved me some extra work there. I received a snap...
