Sleeping Beauties and Tahitians and Keshis and stuff

Thanks, Josh. Obviously, I have no problem doing unusual things with "commercial grade" tahitians. I am not even opposed to using silver in such cases. But, I notice there weren't a lot of responses to this. So, I would like to throw a couple of questions out there, being pretty new to the...

How often do you wear pearls?

I wear some kind of pearls, usually tahitian, about 3-4 times per week, be it earrings, bracelet, necklace or all of the above. I also love gemstones and unusual silver, like Hill Tribe, so I have to rotate those things into the mix as well.

    The " If only" thread...

Here's the rest of my list, which shows that I don't have any chance of getting over my "pearl problem." 1. (previous) Diamond rondelles between strand of Sea of Cortez. 2. Flawless 10mm round tahitians in green peacock. 3. *natural* colored coppery brown tahitian strand, perhaps with...

Did you get/give pearls for Valentine's Day?

Oh, and pandaexpress...Kudos to you for being knowledgeable about jewelry and wanting the best for your girlfriend. You are one in a million!

Did you get/give pearls for Valentine's Day?

Nope. My husband doesn't know enough about pearls to suit my tastes. To his credit though, he set my whole pearl fetish off many years ago with my first pair of black pearl earrings on valentine's day.

    The " If only" thread...

I'd like a nice 20" strand of Sea of Cortez pearls, with white gold or platinum rondelle diamond spacers.

Sleeping Beauties and Tahitians and Keshis and stuff

I'm doing a lot of experimenting in the artisan realm with Tahitians of less than perfect quality. Since keshis are all the rage right now, I finally bought some and worked them in with sleeping beauty turquoise and seven baroque tahitians. The larger center Tahitian is very cool...light...

    Jeremy/Josh's tahitian/keshi bracelet

Wow. I am just getting around to looking back through old threads. Your pearls are stunning. The colors are phenomenal on this piece.

    What is this?

They really look like mother-of-pearl beads to me - which I guess is really shell pearls. I have used them before in very low cost designs. They have a quaint natural look, sometimes even spots of irridescence and usually have some brownish discoloration, which I think I see in the photo...

    Wedding Day Pearls

Oh, and raisondetre...the baroque strand of freshadama you re-posted is soooooooooo fabulous. I am going to have to order some for myself sometime soon.

    Wedding Day Pearls

There is just the slightest bit more luster in the bottom, so I am guessing that is the Hanadama?

Women in power II: a new wave of pearl fashion?

re: Lisa Cuddy from House (which I neglected to mention) I don't know the actresses' name offhand (though my husband thinks she's one of the most beautiful women alive), but that is a gorgeous photo, Jeremy. She is a poster woman for pearls.

Women in power II: a new wave of pearl fashion?

What about fictional women of power? Chief hospital administrator Lisa Cuddy wears a nice tahitian strand in many episodes...appears to be very silvery. Candace Bergen wore a big strand of baroque tahitians on Sex in the City when she played Carrie Bradshaw's executive editor. These are the...

    Grade that pearl!

Moved over from "women in power thread" where grading is being discussed and most recently, a question about the nucleus showing through. Here is a doozy! I set it in silver for myself as the other side is fairly clean. Closeness of photo compromises color somewhat, but it is medium grey with...

    Grade that pearl!

I thought it might be fun to post some tahitian pearl photos and discuss grading. I am very interested in the subject but I have lots to learn, too. I'll take some photos and post later, but if someone else wants to start...feel free.

Women in power II: a new wave of pearl fashion?

Oh wow...yes, the discoloration is rather obvious in the photo with the box. Jeremy, you've seen far more tahitians than I ever will, so I defer to your expertise. Could you say more about how discoloration factors into the net grade using the tahitian scale? What if the discoloration only...

    My first self-made necklace!

Congratulations, Olga. When I first learned to knot, I started with a *bracelet*! You are an ambitious woman! Nice enhancers, Sueki!
